Welcome from Cameron McDonald,

Executive Director The Edmonton Inner City Housing Society

Everyone who supports The Edmonton Inner City Housing Society, truly believes that people need a decent, affordable, place to call home.

That being said, there are many families and individuals residing in the inner city community whose only housing options are the rent-generating, unsafe, substandard housing that blights the community. For the Edmonton Inner City Housing Society, this is simply unacceptable.

That is why the Edmonton Inner City Housing Society builds and provides permanent, supportive, and affordable housing in Edmonton's inner city community. It gives us true satisfaction when we are able to experience first hand what happens in our housing.

With a place to call home, tenants in our housing see improvements in their health and wellness. Many volunteer and/or work. It is our common understanding as citizens that people want to contribute and be part of the community. It is nearly impossible to do that if you do not have a home.

Having a home benefits the community and society as a whole. Homelessness, and living in unsafe substandard housing creates a social burden and adds costs to the social safety net, including primary healthcare, and emergency services. Affordable housing goes a long way to reducing these costs. But it is a bigger picture than simply a financial picture, and it involves how people and families live and experience life. Simply put, decent affordable housing benefits individuals, families, and community.

Our motto:

"Affordable housing, the key to Healthy Communities".
